Methodology
To find the richest neighbourhoods in Calgary, we considered a wide range of factors with a primary focus on housing prices. Our research also considered school quality, neighbourhood safety and amenities such as parks, eateries and shopping. We also looked at public transit options, the variety of housing types available and overall community appeal. To gather this data we focused largely on local real estate and community websites, as well as sites such as Zumper, Zolo and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
1. Upper Mount Royal
Key features: Prestigious, one of Calgary’s oldest neighbourhoods, great schools and strong sense of community
Average median house price: $2 million (though prices can go as high as $8 million)
Average rental cost of a 1-bedroom apartment: $1,600
Mount Royal is aptly named for its elevated, hilltop setting and rich heritage. One of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, it holds some of the most expensive houses in Calgary. It’s also famous for its stately historic mansions, large mature lots and tree-lined streets. A short 10-minute drive to downtown, greenspace is nonetheless plentiful with Earl Grey Park and Cartier Park being among the favourites. The area is also close to the walking paths and biking trails of Elbow River and is just a short walk to the bustling commercial district on 17th avenue, filled with chic restaurants and boutiques. 10. Aspen Woods

Aspen Woods is a newer community on Calgary’s west end that’s popular with families and professionals. The area features a mix of modern mansions, condos and townhomes.
