When Wolf Castle first stepped into the music industry, he had talent, drive and a lot of unanswered questions. Now, the Mi’kmaq rapper and producer is using his hard-won experience to change the game for others.
He’s launching a new Indigenous record label in Atlantic Canada, a bold initiative designed to uplift emerging Indigenous artists and break down the barriers that once stood in his way. From mentorship to funding and industry access, the label aims to be a powerful platform for the next generation of Indigenous talent.
Wolf Castle’s initiative to support Indigenous artists
For Tristan Grant, AKA Wolf Castle, the road to success in music wasn’t paved with easy breaks. Growing up in a rural Indigenous community, he had to learn the industry on his own, often without access to the guidance or resources that many artists take for granted.
Those early struggles now fuel his mission to make things easier for the next generation. Through his new record label, he’s offering more than just exposure, he’s creating a space where Indigenous artists can access mentorship, funding and the professional support they need to thrive.
This isn’t his first step toward building that support network: He previously launched the NB Indigenous Artist Development Grant, a $3,000 award helping artists in New Brunswick record music, build online presence and hone their craft.
Amplifying Indigenous voices in the arts
Wolf Castle’s new label isn’t just a milestone for his own career, it’s part of a growing wave of change across Canada. From music to visual arts to literature, Indigenous artists are claiming more space and gaining long-overdue recognition for their creative contributions.
In the music world, that shift is being powered by initiatives like this one: Grassroots, community-driven efforts that give Indigenous talent the tools, support and visibility they’ve too often been denied.
As more Indigenous voices rise, they’re not only shaping the sound of Canadian music, they’re reshaping the country’s cultural narrative, bringing stories and perspectives rooted in deep tradition and vibrant modernity.
