European Tier IV Data Center Operator LuxConnect Cuts Carbon, Energy, and Water Use as AI Boom Strains U.S. Infrastructure

Company sets measurable climate targets, and accelerates low-carbon construction to position Europe as the model for responsible data center growth

BETTEMBOURG, LUXEMBOURG – September 15, 2025 – 2:00 PM Eastern Time – [NEWS DIRECT] LuxConnect, a leader in sustainable data center operation and dark fiber network solutions, today released new progress against its sustainability goals and announced a new sustainable growth and corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy. With AI workloads already transforming the global data center market and U.S. operators facing record power demand and regulatory delays, LuxConnect is continuing to focus on sustainable growth and reduction in water, energy, and carbon emissions. Additionally, the European Tier IV data center operator and dark fiber network provider introduced separate sustainability reporting and ambitious carbon-neutral construction targets while announcing expanded ESG commitments across its operations.

“The AI boom has pushed data centers into the spotlight in a way the industry has never experienced before,” said Paul Konsbruck, CEO of LuxConnect. “Data centers have become the backbone of the global economy, but the conversation has been focused on speed and scale. What we are building in Luxembourg shows the industry that growth can come with accountability. Europe has an opportunity to prove that performance, reliability, and sustainability do not have to be tradeoffs.”

Over the past two years, LuxConnect has made significant strides toward improving its already sustainable model. Key highlights include:

  • Cutting 390 tons of CO₂e in 2 years despite an 11 percent increase in energy consumption.
  • Signed the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact committing to climate-neutral operations by 2030.
  • In 2024, water withdrawal was 0 m³ across all sites, including those in areas with high water stress. In 2023, LuxConnect achieved an impressive average Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of 0.206 liters of water per kilowatt-hour (l/kWh), compared to the typical WUE of 1.8 l/kWh across the data center industry.
  • Incorporating circular economy principles by reusing materials in the new administrative building and converting local wood waste into renewable energy and heat through Kiowatt’s closed-loop system.
  • Advanced plans for a Carbon Footprint NEUTRAL-certified office building scheduled to open in 2027.

LuxConnect’s sustainability report comes as AI-era demand pushes data centers to the center of global energy and climate debates. In the U.S., grid instability, regulatory bottlenecks, and growing ESG backlash have slowed development even as electricity consumption surges. By contrast, LuxConnect is betting that Europe’s stricter environmental rules, stable power infrastructure, and rising demand for transparency will give it a competitive edge. Beginning in 2025, the company will split its sustainability reporting between LuxConnect and its high-performance computing subsidiary LuxProvide, promising clearer KPIs, milestones, and third-party accountability as regulators, investors, and enterprise customers scrutinize the sector’s carbon footprint.

“The only way to cut emissions while adding capacity is through better technology and a full commitment to operating at the most sustainable level while meeting the expectations the world has for us,” said Vincent Weynandt, CTO of LuxConnect. “We want to prove that growth and environmental stewardship can move forward together, and that the next era of digital infrastructure will be defined as much by responsibility as by performance.”

Beyond carbon reduction and infrastructure investments, LuxConnect’s strategy focuses on preparing its workforce and community for the next era of digital infrastructure. The company has launched partnerships to expand access to STEM education, participated in early-career programs like dayCARE Hands-on 2025 to provide students with real-world experience inside data centers, and introduced company-wide ESG training to align employees with sustainability goals. Together, these efforts aim to build the talent pipeline and cultural foundation required for responsible growth as AI-driven demand accelerates worldwide.
